# Lasto

> Lasto is a read-only data logger being built for a 2006 Lexus GX470, Lexus's version of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Passive mode (Phase 2) records what the truck's modules say on the CAN bus and sends nothing. Polled mode (Phase 4) will ask read-only diagnostic questions for data the truck may not broadcast.

Built by Chris Johnson. Pre-alpha: Phase 2 is done, and at the truck Lasto only listens so far.

Lasto is free software under GPL-3.0-or-later, with no warranty. It's built for one truck first: a 2006 Lexus GX470 (2UZ-FE V8, A750F automatic, KDSS). Passive capture, built in Phase 2 and run at the truck, opens a PEAK PCAN-USB interface in hardware listen-only mode, confirms it, keeps checking it while it records, and sends nothing. Polled mode, arriving in Phase 4, will send only read-only diagnostic requests through allowlists, rate limits, and a kill switch, and one write function checks every frame again before it goes out.
